edge2000
» PDF Datasheet
The edge2000 serves as the hand-off point between the Alloptic access network and the core network. Together with the Alloptic Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) and Access Concentrators, the edge2000 provides a cost effective means for delivering high-speed data, video and voice services to customers.
High Reliability, High Port Density, & Compact
The edge2000 includes all the system control and management functionality required to 'light up' the last mile and unleash unparalleled bandwidth. Each edge is capable of supporting up to 8 Optical Line Termination cards (OLTs) that can connect up to a maximum of 16 individual Gigabit EPON networks. The edge2000 supports four Network Interface Cards capable of providing connectivity with multiple Data and TDM telephony service providers. In its maximum configuration, a single edge2000 chassis can support over 500 ONTs, in excess of 4,000 data VLANS, and 2,500 TDM POTS services. This compact high-density design provides a maximum service capacity, with a minimum of floor space, power, and cooling requirements.
Traffic Routing and Grooming
The edge also supports a fully integrated 3-1-0 DCS capability for traditional Telephony services. This grooming function allows any POTS or T1/E1 interface on any GEPON in the system to be 'cross-connected' to any channel in the DS3 telephony interface or other Telephony port that is served from the chassis. Likewise, Data packets may be assigned VLAN tags on the subscriber Ethernet port and switched either to the GbE ports in the edge chassis, or to any other Ethernet port that is serviced by the edge products.
Onboard Testing Capabilities
A wide range of system test capabilities are built into the edge2000. These include; OTDR functionality to calculate the ONT's distance from the chassis for automatic time slot assignments, a virtual packet analyzer to provide packet level analysis of CRCs, packet discards and other related data transmission performance issues; a TDM analyzer that monitors the TDM circuit quality and finally a diagnostics suite to perform loop back tests, generate test patterns and analog tones to help isolate telephony problems across the network.
